What is Mass Save® and who is eligible for a no-cost Home Energy Assessment?

Mass Save® is an energy efficiency initiative sponsored by Massachusetts’ electric and gas utilities and energy efficiency service providers. Homeowners and renters in 1–4 unit homes may be eligible for a no-cost Home Energy Assessment if they receive electric or gas service from a Mass Save Sponsor.

What happens during the energy assessment?

A certified technician visits your home, identifies areas where you may be losing energy or heat, and provides recommendations for improvements—like insulation or air sealing that reduce draft.

Do I need to meet certain requirements to qualify?

Yes. To qualify, you must be a customer of a participating Mass Save® Sponsor (an eligible electric or gas utility). Additional requirements may apply depending on your home and recent participation. We’ll confirm your eligibility during the application process.

What kind of upgrades can I receive?

Common upgrades include 75%–100% incentivized insulation measures and 100% no-cost air sealing, all aimed at improving your home’s comfort and energy efficiency.

Additional improvements may include heat pump recommendations with up to $16,000 in incentives, depending on your current heating system and eligibility.

We also install programmable thermostats, water-saving showerheads, faucet aerators, and provide smart power strips during the Home Energy Assessment.

How long does it take?

The assessment typically takes about 2 hours, depending on the size of your home and the number of measures installed during the visit.

Will I really save money?

Most homeowners reduce energy costs by up to 15% with weatherization — and 20% or more when combined with other upgrades.
